Anti-monarchy advocates have argued there is a chance that Prince William and Kate Middleton may never ascend to the throne as the Royal Family’s support is diminishing.

This fear has been heightened after the publication of Prince Harry’s book, Spare, with it containing numerous damaging claims. Recent polls conducted by YouGov have also shown that the monarchy’s standing has been reduced, with the percentage of British people proud of the monarchy dropping from 55% in September to 43% in January.
According to the poll, 20 percent of British citizens currently feel uncomfortable with the monarchy, a number that has increased from 15 percent since September. In response, Graham Smith, a proponent of abolition of the monarchy and a spokesperson for Republic, suggested that it is very feasible that William may never rule.
In his comments, he said: “The chances of George making it to the throne are even lower. We have ahead of us 100 years of fairly elderly men, as Willliam is likely to be in his 60s when he becomes King and George well into his 60s.”
Smith pointed to the rising degree of resistance to the monarchy, citing that there could be numerous protests in the run up to King Charles III’s Coronation. And this backlash towards the current monarch has already been seen.
Symon Hill, an opponent of the monarchy who was accused of making menacing or offensive comments about King Charles at a proclamation event for him, believes the death threats he has since gotten are indications that the monarchy is fading away.
His following comments confirmed as much: “I had messages telling me I should be hanged for treason, had a conservative councillor in Essex saying I should be sent to the Tower of London.”
