They just won the 2022 Eurovision contest and now they are using their newfound fame to do something good. There’s a new report that says the Kalush orchestra will plan an army fundraiser tour to help generate funds for the Ukrainian army in their home country. Here’s what you need to know.

Frontman Oleh Psiuk told a televised news conference in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv that the group would soon announce on Instagram where it would tour. “At every performance, we are going to collect funds for the needs of the army,” he said.

On Monday, Kalush Orchestra returned home after their emotional Eurovision Song Contest victory, with frontman Psiuk saying he hoped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the war effort by selling the Eurovision trophy.

Also, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says there’s no doubt in his mind that the next Eurovision song contest will be hosted in Ukraine and hopefully in the capital city of Kiev this time next year. President Zelensky said in a Facebook post: “Our courage impresses the world our music conquers Europe! Next year Ukraine will host Eurovision! For the third time in its history. And I believe – not for the last time.”

Receiving the coveted trophy, Kalush Orchestra said: “Thank you for supporting Ukraine. This victory is for every Ukrainian. Slava Ukraini.”

Fighters in the last stronghold in Mariupol have started to surrender, but a Ukrainian presidential adviser said their defiance had changed the course of the war. Meanwhile, many critics believe Ukraine seemed destined for victory amid Russia’s invasion, which prompted organizers to ban the country from competing. Ukraine joined the contest in 2003 and its three wins make it one of the most successful of the newer competitor countries – having triumphed in 2004 and 2016.
