UFC news has revealed that Conor McGregor’s retirement from the octagon may be over before it even began as he left a cryptic comment on a tweet including a picture of Nate Diaz. In his comment, he simply said ‘Line them up’.
McGregor was quick to comment on the picture that was published by BT Sport on social media after the buzz surrounding the potential return of Nick Diaz was amped up earlier this week. Fans of MMA would certainly be intrigued to see the controversial megastar step foot in the octagon again, but could a potential trilogy fight with Nate Diaz be the preferred route for the Irishman?
UFC News: Trilogy Fight Potentially On The Cards
It is a fight that would certainly gain the attention of fans around the world, as they were enthralled with Diaz and McGregor going toe-to-toe in the past. There would still appear to be unfinished business between the stars, with Diaz winning the first bout before McGregor gained his return less than a year later. The fact that McGregor won by unanimous decision means that the need for a trilogy could still be needed after Diaz brutally submitted the Irishman in their first bout.
Talks surrounding the fight have been on and off for years, but this latest comment by McGregor could mean that he is prepared to come out of retirement again for the fight. It isn’t the only fight that has been interesting fight fans with fanatics still keen on seeing the rematch between Khabib and McGregor. Nick Diaz is also returning to the welterweight division, which was the last division in which McGregor competed in as he beat Donald Cerrone back in January inside a minute.
UFC News: Dana White Reveals McGregor Plans
However, fans that are hoping for a quick fight to be made between McGregor and any other fighter may be left disappointed as Dana White has already revealed that he doesn’t expect the Irishman to be fighting before the end of this year. But, that doesn’t mean that the chance of it happening is entirely over, as it has been teased that he could return next year.
Meanwhile, Diaz could be set for a blockbuster fight of his own, as there are talks that a rematch between himself and Jorge Masvidal could be on the cards for UFC 257 next year. The two stars had a brutal fight at the end of 2019 as Masvidal beat Diaz via doctor stoppage in the third round to win the UFC BMF Championship.
