Tom Holland has fired back at critically acclaimed director Martin Scorsese’s criticism towards the rise of Superhero movies.

Tom, for his part, is qualified to speak on the matter given that he has become one of the most popular Spiderman actors of all time.

And his stock has only gone on to rise following his latest movie ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ given that it gave fans the chance to see Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire return to the franchise in their respective roles.

As the movie has gone down so well with the fanbase, Tom was rightly outraged by what he perceived to be unfair criticism. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he questioned whether Martin was qualified to speak on the matter.

He said: “You can ask Scorsese, ‘Would you want to make a Marvel movie?’ but he doesn’t know what it’s like because he’s never made one.”

The primary bone of contention that Martin was feeling was that he felt the Superhero movies were less about the acting and more about the grandiose nature of the set.

So much so that he went on to compare them to theme parks to the extent that they provide short-term thrills, but in the long-term, they are often forgotten about as there are so many of them.

In an interview at the time, Martin had remarked: “Honestly, the closest I can think of them [superhero movies] — as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances — is theme parks.”

Regardless of what Martin had to say, Tom continued to defend the movies by stating that they had a place within cinematic history.

He went on to cite his fellow actors including Benedict Cumberbatch as testament to that, by stating how Benedict has worked in Superhero movies as well as other Oscar worthy performances outside of the Marvel franchise.

His following comments confirmed as much: “So I do think they’re real art.” The only thing that ultimately matters in the end is what the fanbase thinks. And for Tom, he has plenty of people on his side.
