‘Welcome to Plathville’ spoilers indicate that Lydia didn’t ask to be on social media, she didn’t ask for a brand new car (although honestly, I think she would have been met with less of a dirty look if she had) all she wanted was a phone so that she could talk to her older siblings who are gone and out of the house.
Then Barry said that they would have to introduce her to ‘dumb technology’ before they introduced her to ‘smart technology’.
‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers: You know what Barry? That’s not fair to Lydia.
The Plaths are intentionally keeping their kids in the dark when the world is changing around them. Lydia wanted to help, when Kim and Barry were logging into the app store, but she couldn’t even begin to help because she has been kept away from technology and doesn’t know anything about it.
The Plaths wanted to keep in touch with their oldest daughter, Hosanna, who is apparently pregnant and they needed an app to cross platforms because their phones have different operating systems. Thing is, Kim has facebook, so if Hosanna had facebook she could have video calls with her Mom over facebook, but because Kim did such a number on her kids about social media, Hosanna probably doesn’t have it.

Either way, they’re not being fair to Lydia. Lydia should have the same opportunity as Kim does to have a phone. If Kim is so afraid then why doesn’t she just buy her the same kind of phone that she has? That way she would know all the ins and outs of it and if Lydia was trying to hide anything.
I don’t see why there’s so much distrust of Lydia when it comes to getting a phone, she’s probably the least rebellious teenager they have and probably wouldn’t do anything that they would consider bad with it, she just wants to talk to her older siblings.
That’s all! She’s not like Moriah, she didn’t express a desire to drink and party, she simply misses her siblings and probably people her own age that she can relate to. Never have I ever rolled my eyes harder at two parents than I did at the Plaths. So, did the Plaths ever intend on getting Lydia a phone? Judging from just that look, I’d say no. We’ll see what kind of hoops the poor girl has to jump through to get it. Stay tuned!!!
