TLC has always brought us some shows that have changed our lives and those on them. On one of the new shows, TLC is showing us what it takes to be a trans couple and to expect a child. My Pregnant Husband is taking on a whole new realm of reality television and we are incredibly excited about it.
TLC ‘My Pregnant Husband’ Spoilers: What We Can Expect?
It all began for Precious Brady-Davis when she was working in an LGBTQ youth center in Chicago. When she was working one day, the man of her dreams came into her center. “Myles had just arrived from the West Coast. He was coming back from San Francisco after college, and he was looking to become immersed in the Chicago activism scene.”
TLC ‘My Pregnant Husband’ Spoilers: Trans Couples Share Their Story
Precious said that they were just keeping it professional at the beginning and she thought nothing of it really. When they were in Philadelphia, a mutual friend saw them together and put the bug in her ear that they should date because they had some chemistry that everyone could see when they were together.”It was actually a setup. Janet and I went to lunch, and Myles had previously plunged to her that he was interested in me.”
The couple had a great date and the sparks were flying. The couple both identifies as trans. Precious identifies as a transgender woman and Myles identify as transmasculine. Myles has always wanted to have children and the couple had that in common and that helped to build their strong foundation. “He said, ‘I want to start a family with you. I specifically want to have your child.’ That to me was so beautiful touching, and for me to see a little version of us in the world and what our love represents- that was the deal maker right there.” Having a family for transgender individuals is not as easy as it looks. They had to find a great doctor to help with the pregnancy. “This was a trial-by-error process. There have been struggles and Myles was misgendered by nurse techs and it was so daunting. We were working with service providers who aren’t culturally competent.”
She told fans, “I’m so glad that I had a partner who is trans, and through that process understood what I was feeling on the inside. It was not just a physical change, it was an emotional change.” There are still a lot of worries for Precious and Myles though. Precious worries that Myles may be part of a hate crime because he is very pregnant now and she offered to get him an Uber every day to work. He still takes the bus and doesn’t seem to be as worried as she is. They continue to get strange looks from strangers and they have both felt prejudice from people at times. There is one moment that Myles was shopping and the store associate saw his baby bump. She called the cops because she thought he was shoplifting. “Someone just assuming because he’s a black man and he has a bump that he was stealing. He was not. And this is on the day of our baby shower- handcuffed him and threw him to the ground. And so I was just in fear that would happen to him, obviously, a moment of prejudice that he cannot even navigate shopping in a store, being pregnant and transmasculine.” My Pregnant Husband will air on July 23 on TLC
