TLC ’90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days’ finds that we’ve all heard the term ‘yahoo boy’ by now, even though it’s still a relatively new term in the ’90 Day Fiancé’ vernacular, it means a scammer that goes on social media and butters up women (usually older) who are, shall we say ‘financially generous’ under the guise of being in love with them. Some of these women are lonely and love attention. Initially, we were scared for Lisa, who was dating an actual man from Nigeria, which seems to be the Yahoo Boy capital of the world according to Lisa’s friend Trinda. However, it looks like we were worried about the wrong woman, the real victim of this Yahoo Boy scam seems to have been Yolanda!
Yolanda is the girl on ‘Before the 90 days’ who has been through a lot. Her husband died of kidney disease in prison and it seems she was only ever with him before taking a new lease on life, losing a lot of weight, and searching for love online. On ‘the gram’ as she refers to it, she met Williams, someone who claimed to be from Manchester England who had all of these pictures that were suspiciously way too perfect in spite of claiming not to have a phone camera. That was our first clue. Here are some others!

He claimed not to be able to take pictures of himself with his phone, claimed not to have a camera, even though the technology is easy and cheap enough now so that most 10-year-olds have iPhones. This is not the only flip phone of 2007 where only some of us have access to technology readily available to post pictures to Facebook. Every smartphone on the market nowadays has some sort of camera functionality. He had never done video chat with Yolanda, just chatting via voice calls and texts. And his name in her phone was “The Williams”.
I’ve heard of some pretty outlandish last names but as far as I know, nobody has ever willingly given their kid the first name of “The”, even foreign immigrants who don’t automatically understand English would avoid that word. I know some of you are instantly thinking that maybe Williams had a reason for not being up-front with her about his appearance, like, maybe he had a horrible condition that he couldn’t help and was self-conscious about it. As sweet a narrative as that would have been, one formerly self-conscious person helping another overcome their shyness by way of love, that is not the case at all.
The second thought on this was that Williams was actually a married man and that maybe Yolanda was just his side chick, which could honestly still be true. He could still definitely be a married man and just be playing her. Another clue is that he told her to go to the London airport when he clearly lives in Manchester, and there’s an airport in Manchester. He also gave her the name of the airport in Manchester, but it doesn’t exist? When she tried to confirm the details of this airport and where it was, that’s when Williams started ghosting her.
And then it was found out by mommy_says_bad_words on Instagram that even though Williams had done his best to cover his tracks, that the things that you put on the internet are indeed forever. Both he and Yolanda forgot about all the tagged pictures they had, and he was tagged in some pictures that very clearly was not the fitness model he was catfishing Yolanda as. However… was it truly catfishing?
If they tagged each other in these photos then it looks like Yolanda knew from the get-go what this guy looked like and he wasn’t who he was claiming to be. The thing is, was she okay with it? I mean, we have her statement from her former boyfriend (whom she also met on the ‘gram, oh yeah, forgot about him for a hot second.) that she was just doing this TLC thing for the money. But here’s the theory I propose, that the ‘former’ boyfriend is Williams, and this has moved into catfish-ception territory.
Hey, it could happen, just sayin’. I wonder what Yolanda is going to do when she goes to Manchester and no one shows up at the airport to greet her because guess what, they’re in Nigeria! Will he give her the correct route or is this going to remain a lost connection? Stay tuned!!!
