Olivia Jade, youtube, instagram, and now tiktok influencer who was involved, along with her parents, Lori Loughlin and Massimo Giannouli in the now infamous Varsity Blue scandal came out with a tiktok addressing the situation.

This comes as kind of a surprise because she took an entire months long break from social media in order not to be forced to address the situation, but now she has decided to, at least on tiktok, say a few words about how she’s feeling.

Olivia Jade – Shame or accountability?

She said that when the scandal was at its height, she talked to “a very influential woman” (of course she wouldn’t name names) and then immediately excused herself, telling the woman that what she has been through compares to the trials that this paticular woman has experienced, again, careful not to name names.

However, this person, whomever they may be, had the grace to tell Olivia, “Olivia, it doesn’t matter if you’re drowning in 30 feet of water, and I’m drowning in 60 feet of water, you’re still drowning.” and honestly, she has a point. When going through a trial in life, it doesn’t matter how the problem may look to another person, for the person who’s dealing with it, it’s still overwhelming.

Olivia was basically send a message to her followers that all feelings are valid and that everyone deserves to be heard and sympathized with. We get what Olivia was trying to do, but people’s reactions have been mixed so far.

A lot of them are just saying that Olivia shouldn’t count this as “drowning” because she was being held accountable and that’s different from any other sort of overwhelming situation. Is it, though? Are we truly at the point where we’re not allowed to feel ‘bad’ when others are holding us accountable?

Because in order for there to be change, there needs to be acknowledgement of the behavior and one would think that would include feeling bad, otherwise the shift from recognizing it’s wrong (which is a part of feeling bad) to having the desire to change the behavior doesn’t happen.

You can’t change just because others want you to, and most of the time you can’t change on a dime, it takes time. Others were in her comments saying that she needs to be allowed to heal from her experience, because it hurt her too.

I recognize the need for there to be accountability, but when is accountability satisfied, and isn’t part of accountability being allowed to prove yourself? Stay tuned!!!
