‘The Young And The Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers finds that Eric Braeden, who plays the infamous Victor Newman has a few things to say about talk shows and reality shows, “We don’t need anymore talk shows or reality shows, PLEASE!!!” he says, but he’s not just being a hater, there’s context behind it. As we all know, some people think that soap operas are a dying breed and there days are numbered on the TV landscape, but Braeden does not seem to agree on that front. He thinks that there is still hope for the venerated TV art form.
Some people think that younger, millenial-aged people aren’t really that into soaps and recently a fan commented on his twitter addressing this, “My daughter is twenty-one and she LOVES Y&R and so do her friends. They never miss it, it’s a part of their day as it is for me. It’s not just baby boomers who love the show!” which is true, soaps attract fans of all ages.

They’re a very accessible way of getting into a fandom, it doesn’t take much to really invested into a soap opera. The beauty of soaps is that even though a show has been running for 20+ years you don’t have to have been watching for that long to get really invested in the lives of these characters or to even figure out what they’re about – just give it a month, or in some cases, just a couple of weeks and you’ll be hooked!

Braeden agreed with the fan wholeheartedly. There’s been some murmurs recently about Y&R looking for a new head writer to cap off some of the unfinished storylines that seem to crop up in Genoa City, but even with that change looming it looks like Braeden and Y&R’s dedicated fanbase is hopeful for the future of Y&R and soaps everywhere.Speaking from personal experience, I look forward to the the day when there are more than four soaps again. The world was a lot more entertaining place back when soaps dominated the daytime TV landscape. Reality is reality, give me an escape! Calgon, take me away! Stay tuned!!!
