‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) Spoilers indicates that Summer Newman (Allison Lanier) may be more like her mother than she thought. With the surprise “death” of her mother, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), Summer may become obsessed with justice.
‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Like Mother, Like Daughter
Phyllis was obsessed with Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters). When Diane returned to Genoa City after having faked her own death while framing Phyllis, it was difficult to accept her return. Phyllis felt angry and upset. She could not believe everyone was welcoming Diane and giving her another chance.
Her dislike for Diane led her to lose her job with Marchetti. She couldn’t let go of her anger, and her children felt done with it. It was especially hard for Summer since Diane is her mother-in-law. She felt that she needed to support her husband against her mother. It was a difficult road for her to walk.
The obsession Phyllis had with Diane colored everything in her life. When she became estranged from her kids because of her own recklessness, she blamed Diane. It seemed that she could comfortably blame Diane for everything in her life that went wrong. Then she went to the extreme, faking her death to pin on Diane in partnership with Jeremy Stark (James Hyde).
‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Mother’s Footsteps
Summer is devastated by Phyllis’ accident and “death”. She blew up at Diane, saying that Diane really did want her mother out of the picture. She sat by her son’s bed and wouldn’t talk, eat, or sleep. Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) is worried about her.
The next morning, she acted fine, saying that instead of being distraught, she needs to focus on the memorial service. Nikki Newman (Melody Scott Thomas) noted that she is trying to put on a brave face but it just on the edge of falling apart. She definitely is not doing well.
She hasn’t called her father, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and seems to be trying to direct her energy to other things in order to handle the pain. Summer will first direct her attention to the memorial, and she will most assuredly direct her attention to getting justice for Phyllis. She will not rest until her mother gets the respect that she deserved.
What do you think? Is Summer doing this because she feels guilty for how she treated her mother? Is she doing this because she wants justice to be served? Will she have a breakdown? Let us know your thoughts below.
