‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers explores the question, “Is it possible to forgive anything’? Through the situations in the Abbott family, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) discuss if this is possible.

‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Jack’s Side

Y&R’s Jack believes that it is possible to forgive anything. He has the example of Kyle’s mother, Diane Jenkins (Susan Walter) as evidence. She faked her own death and framed Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) for it. She disappeared for years and broke Jack and Kyle’s heart.

Diane has returned to Genoa City and has asked them both for forgiveness. While some in Jack’s family think it’s illogical and dangerous, he has opened his heart to her and has found love again.

He is really thankful that he has given her another chance because he feels deeply loved and cared for. He believes it is possible for everyone to change and we should be willing to give people another chance.

Jack doesn’t delve into it, but forgiveness actually does more for the heart of the person doing the forgiving. They don’t carry around the anger and bitterness anymore and it makes them more content.

While they may not trust at the same level for a while or ever again, forgiving means that that person and their actions don’t have any power over them anymore.

‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Kyle’s Side

Kyle disagrees in the case of his wife, Summer Newman (Allison Lanier). He says he just doesn’t even know her anymore. She has been deceitful and has hurt him deeply.

    No photo description available.

What is interesting is that Kyle’s argument that some things are unforgivable only seems to be applicable to some people. Kyle has forgiven his mother and given her another chance. He isn’t willing to consider the possibility of ever forgiving Summer.

Possibly this isn’t about forgiveness and second chances at all for Kyle. Maybe he just wants to hold on to his anger over Summer as justification for his own wandering. Maybe holding on to the resentment makes him feel okay about sleeping with Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver).

The mistreatment he received at Summer’s hands makes it okay for him to be unfaithful to her. If he forgives, then he can’t just do whatever he wants.

What do you think? Is Jack right or is Kyle right? Is there anything that is so heinous that it can’t be forgiven? Don’t we all make mistakes and need a little grace? Do you think Kyle will ever forgive Summer?
