‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers indicates that Summer Newman (Allison Lanier) is facing a challenge of keeping the secret that her mother Phyllis Summer (Michelle Stafford) is still alive. It is especially difficult to keep it from her husband, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor).

When Summer believed that Kyle’s mother, Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters), was responsible for her mother’s death, there was a big rift between Summer and Kyle. Summer’s pain was so great that she couldn’t barely stand to look at Kyle.
Kyle believes that his mother could not be responsible for Phyllis’ ‘death’. Since he was so intent on helping his mother go free, this was extremely difficult for Summer. She did not feel completely supported by him since he was sure his mother could not have done anything to Summer’s mother. Summer felt that Diane was responsible.
The rift between Kyle and Summer grew as Summer grieved. She couldn’t talk about her pain without speaking ill of Diane and Kyle couldn’t speak of his fear for his mother without hurting Summer. Things were getting very bad for the two of them.
Suddenly everything has changed, because Summer has new information about her mother.

Now that Summer knows that Phyllis is alive, she isn’t feeling such terrible grief and pain. However, she can’t share that with Kyle right now. However, she isn’t feeling disconnected from him since she isn’t in the pain she was in before.
He senses the difference and is so glad that they can connect again. He believes that they can make it through any hardship if they choose one another. He is also very concerned about his mother though. He believes he needs to fight for her innocence.
Now Summer’s position is untenable. She can’t tell Kyle the truth that his mother is innocent until Phyllis has set up a plan to save herself. If she does that now, it could cause Phyllis to be in trouble. As Phyllis said, “You have to choose either your mother-in-law or me.” She believes she has to put her mom first, but in doing that, she is also hurting her husband.
When Kyle finds out the truth, what will his reaction be? How is he going to feel, knowing that his wife knew that his mother was innocent and didn’t speak up? Will he be able to forgive her? What do you think?
