Ian Somerhalder, the star of The Vampire Diaries, has spoken on communication being the key to his marriage with Nikki Reed.

When speaking to Andy Cohen on his show, SiriusXM’s Radio Andy, he said the following: “Communication. Taking time for yourself — for yourselves together [and separately].” And he added how Nikki was instrumental in all of this: “[She would say], ‘Go on a bike ride. Go socially distance walk with your buddies. Go have a bourbon at the bar.’ You know, like, just go.”
The couple got married in 2015, and by all accounts, things are going well. Ian then spoke on the dynamics of the relationship and confirmed they rarely get heated with each other: “Well, I’m a tornado. “I literally live — and I’ve learned this now as a parent because being a parent forces you to reckon with all of the things that [you do and] who you are really comes out — and I am a tornado.”
And it was during Nikki’s birthday last year that Ian showed just how much he appreciated her. When speaking to his fans on Instagram at the time, he left a heartwarming message for Nikki: “I’m so inspired by you as a mother, a business owner, a daughter, a sister, a wife and a friend. You hold down the fort like a BOSS.
“You’re the only person I know who can be a full-time mom while running your own company while keeping numerous other jobs ON TOP of devoting your time and energy to my chaotic life work —foundation etc.” And Ian added to it by saying how he hopes to stay with Nikki for the rest of time. He said:
“You are simply incredible, and my mind is blown by everything you are. You’ve taught me so much through your generosity and ability to love like no other. Happy Birthday, Happy Mother’s Day, Happy 32. You are a maverick, a powerhouse and an inspiration. I can’t wait to celebrate you today and every day. Love, Ian/Baby Daddy.”
