The Royal Family Would Prefer It If Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Did Not Attend Prince Philip’s Memorial
That is according to Royal expert Ingrid Seward. Reports had indicated that the pair could make a visit to the UK prior to Harry’s security row which has now threatened to put an end to a visit, as representatives confirmed Harry would not come unless he was allowed to fund his security.
While an absence had suggested that Harry could face further backlash, the very fact of the matter is that by the couple not being there, it may save a lot of hassle.
In an interview with Fabulous, Ingrid said: “I think if they choose not to come then everyone will breathe a sigh of relief. It is thanks-giving for Prince Philip and we don’t want it turning into the Harry and Meghan show.”
This is totally understandable, as it is clear that Philip’s memorial would not be the only thing on the agenda. Prince Charles was reportedly desperate to see his grandchildren to the point where he even invited the pair to visit the UK.
But given that Harry is set to release his tell-all memoir this year, the last thing that the Royal family needs is a sense of pretence.
After all, when Harry left the Royal family, Queen Elizabeth II stressed that he and Meghan would always be ‘family,’ after which the two decided to air their controversial Oprah Winfrey interview.
The response on social media was mixed towards this report. There was a clear division by virtue of the fact that people felt this was an opportunity for Harry to make things right by making an appearance.
Meanwhile, others felt that his security concerns were justified especially since Queen Elizabeth had also suffered a scare on Christmas Day last year when an armed intruder with a crossbow was apprehended for trespassing at Windsor Castle.
Ultimately, whatever Harry and Meghan decide to do will always be met with criticism. But that is something they have to get used to, and it was expected when they decided to walk away from the Royal Family in 2020.
