New controversy may arise for the Crown as photos have surfaced of a reconstructed Mercedes, similar to the one that was involved in the accident that killed Princess Diana, being used on the set of Elstree Studios.

The Crown Risks Upsetting The Firm By Recreating Diana’s Car Crash

In 1997, Diana and Dodi Fayed lost their lives when the car they were riding in, an S-Class vehicle, crashed in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel located in Paris.

And now photos reveal a reconstructed version of a wrecked car with a damaged black Mercedes front wheel, a crushed bonnet, and a dashboard protruding through the shattered front windscreen.

One of the two vehicles was taken to Paris for filming purposes last year, the car was reportedly transported discreetly under a tarpaulin cover.

Netflix teams were observed rebuilding the last route taken by Diana in Paris during October. Further footage filmed in December portrays investigators scrutinizing the remains.

With that being said, this had the potential to create a lot of backlash. A source confirmed the following: “I think a lot of people will find it quite sick that they went into such detail to recreate how the car was smashed up.

“I think it’s going to cause a lot of upset with the Royal Family. If it was any other family I’m not sure they’d do it.”

The upcoming sixth series of the show will cover the events of the late 1990s and early 2000s related to the royals.

Elizabeth Debicki played the role of Diana who was taken to the hospital after a car accident that resulted in the instantaneous death of Fayed and the driver, Henri Paul.

Netflix received a strong negative reaction regarding its new series that stars in the past, as they depicted the late princess participating in her notorious 1995 Panorama interview with the disgraced former BBC journalist Martin Bashir.

With that being said, the response on social media was one of outrage. A certain subset of people were of the view that the show could cause hurt given that the theme was so sensitive.

One person wrote: “I believe that the series portraying Diana , and the car crash , is in extremely bad taste.”
