Katie Thurston has apologised to her fans on social media after The Bachelorette star posted a picture in which she was kissing another woman.

This caused outrage amongst the LGBTQ community on the basis that Katie was mocking such relationships, especially since she is straight and on a show looking for her ideal man. In a post to her fans on Instagram, Katie confirmed that she had removed the image. She said: “To my followers: I’ve removed my most recent post after realizing how many people from the LGBTQ+ [community] I hurt. I am so sorry.”

So what was the image in question? Well, the picture allegedly showed Katie kissing Casandra Suarez. The latter had recently appeared on Matt James’ season. Although Katie was merely showing it to be a sign of her friendship, fans interpreted it in another way. They felt that Katie was having a laugh at the expense of LGBTQ relationships in light of the show’s recent history.

After all, we only have to look at Colton Underwood. He infamously came out as gay, despite going on The Bachelor and dating several women. But those issues have been understood by Katie. She added: “I am so sorry. I’ve read the comments and better understand why my post was offensive. I will continue to learn from my mistakes…I’m sorry I let you down.”

Katie, for her part, will have to watch her actions very carefully. Just like another female contestant (Rachael Kirkconnell), she could be in danger of letting her social media activity ruin her career. This is especially true in light of what happened to Rachael. Not only that, there is a lot of pressure on Katie to perform given the uncertainty surrounding the franchise.

Although there seems to be a lot of positivity towards Katie’s performance, she has to remain cautious until its conclusion. Katie, though, is used to getting what she wants. A previous source said: “Katie was in control [of the show] and made sure the men she wanted were there and the men she wasn’t interested in.” It is probably wise that Katie refrains from such posts in the future.
