‘The Bachelorette‘ star Erich Schwer has been slammed after a high school photo of him wearing blackface resurfaced.

In the picture here, we can see a book year from Erich’s high school. And one such photo shows him wearing an afro wig with a shirt. On closer inspection, we can see that he is using some dark cosmetics to pull off the look. The picture was accompanied by the following words: “It was swell.”
Naturally, this generated a lot of controversy for the following reasons. First of all, this is not the first time that a person connected to the franchise has been involved in such controversy.
Rachael Kirkconnell also faced a huge amount of backlash during her time on Matt James’ season of ‘The Bachelor’ when photos showed that she had attended an antebellum plantation-themed ball while she was at Georgia College & State University.
Therefore, it seems that the show cannot seem to shake off its negative publicity. Secondly, Erich’s photo had apparently occurred during the time he was serving as a peer leader in high school. As such, this was hardly seen as setting a good example for the rest of the students.
With that being said, Erich came out and held his hands up at the mistake he had made. In response to the controversy, he stated: “I wholeheartedly apologize for the insensitive photo of me in Blackface from my high school yearbook that has been circulating.
“What I thought at the time was a representation of my love for Jimi Hendrix, was nothing but ignorance.” The fans on social media were outraged by Erich’s conduct. And in the process of doing so, the comments were quite harsh indeed.
One person wrote: “It’s ironic that he was a ‘Peer Leader’ while setting the example of blackface to the student body.” Time will tell if there will be any further ramifications for Erich. So there you have it folks.
