Matt James has spoken frankly on Rachael Kirkconnell’s scrutiny as the two continue to fall for each other despite the latter being accused of racist views and cultural appropriation on social media.

Some of the posts included Rachael dressing up as a Native American Indian and her support for Donald Trump. Members of the public have also accused Rachael. Maddy Bierster, a TitToker said: “Girlieeeee, remember when you bullied me in high school for liking black guys???” And the response was an immediate backlash. One fan responded with:
“Since its the start of black history month & Rachael who has been exposed to be hella problematic aka racist gets that 1:1 date with matt and she will be centred today.” While another wrote: “Ok, the racist girl on bachelor (Rachael) thinks she can turn off her ig comments, and I won’t find a way to Cybér Bûlley.”
When Matt was asked about the issue, he confirmed the importance of staying careful on social media: “I have not spoken to anybody since the show ended, but I would say that you have to be really careful about what you are doing on social media. Rumours are dark and nasty and can ruin people’s lives. So I would give people the benefit of the doubt, and hopefully, she will have her time to speak on that.”
In addition, Matt spoke on hearing the other side before passing judgements on whether something was right or not: “There’s a lot of stuff going around about the women that were involved in the show. I would just give them a chance to kind of [say] their piece, whether that is someone who was gone night one or someone who went home last night. Everyone has a story, and I would just be receptive to that.”
Nevertheless, Matt has had an eye on Rachael: “This has been a steady progression … since the first week. It was a feeling I hadn’t felt, and … this is nothing that [producers are] telling me to say or do, it’s just — I felt it in the moment, and I had never felt it before.”
