Matt James has revealed how Rachael Kirkconnell told him that it was now or never when it came to a potential reconciliation.

The duo, for their part, decided to part ways following Rachael’s social media activity that was deemed to be perpetuating racism. While Matt would go on to cause an uproar of his own, namely hooking up with another woman before his crisis talks with Rachael, it seems Rachael took charge over the destiny of their relationship.
During an interview on the Pomp podcast, Matt said: “She was like, ‘If you’re going to make this work, let’s do it. But, if you’re not going to make it work, I’m going to let you do your own thing.’…It was an ultimatum that I needed.” So how did they go about patching things up? Well, Matt has previously been very insistent on Rachael understanding the issues plaguing the black community.
And yet, this was absent from the methods used in putting behind those issues. Matt admitted to doing something much more straightforward, which by all accounts, went on to show just how volatile the relationship has been. He added: “We watched a lot of movies. We worked our way through Disney+. There were rough patches in our relationship [and] we actually broke up for a moment.
“We’re back together [now].” But looking back, Matt had been destined to end up with Rachel. It was clear during the course of the show that the pair had such natural chemistry. Even though Matt would get close to other contestants, such as Michelle Young, it was evident that he had set his eyes on Rachael. This was particularly true given the circumstances in which he blew off Michelle in the latter stages and ended up with Rachael.
He continued: “It’s funny. You have your eye on a few that first night. You have this connection…I had an idea pretty early [that she was The One].” It will be fascinating to see how long their relationship will last. It is still early days, but after what they have been through, things can only go up from here.
