Matt James may have had a disaster on the Bachelor, but he has backed Katie Thurston to do better.

The latter is set to be the lead on the upcoming season of The Bachelorette and will follow in the footsteps of Tayshia Adams. In an interview with E! News, Matt backed her to shine. He said: “She’s incredible. She’s going to do so well, and I’m excited for her to have this space to find her person.” But for all the enthusiasm coming from Matt’s way, we have heard this before.
After all, JoJo Fletcher had infamously said that Matt “could be one of the best Bachelors we’ve ever had.” Well, that did not age very well. Not only did his choice of Rachael Kirkconnell end up being exposed for sharing racist social media posts, Matt hardly covered himself in glory amid the aftermath. Nevertheless, he has back Katie to be one of the OG’s of the show.
He added: “I think that she’s going to be one of the best to ever do it. And it’s not going to be a surprise to me as we watch everyone across the country fall in love with her.” The noise coming out from the show suggests Katie is living up to the hype. She has already wrapped up filming for the show, and sources confirmed that filming concluded one week ahead of schedule.
This was impressive for several reasons. First, Katie had to contend with the fact that Chris Harrison was no longer the host of the show. Therefore, she had to operate in an environment where everyone was contending with mass changes. Second, the show has been under immense scrutiny for the catalogue of scandals that continually follow.
With increasing speculation that the franchise could be about to end, all the pressure was on Katie to deliver. And looking back, Matt could have used Katie’s approach during his time on the show. He continued: “I should’ve [asked] Katie for advice.” Katie has received a lot of positive reviews, but whether she delivers is anyone’s guess.
