Terry Crews has spoken out on Will Smith’s slapgate incident involving Chris Rock at the Oscars.
Terry Crews Praises Chris Rock For His Response To Will Smith Slapping Him-‘It Actually… Saved Hollywood’
Will, for his part, was widely criticised for lashing out at the comedian after he had made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss. Subsequently, Will received a 10-year ban from the Oscars, despite Chris deciding to not file charges.
Rather than calling out an individual person, primarily because Terry is friends with both of them, he was just happy that it did not escalate into something much more serious. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Terry said: “Both Will Smith and Chris Rock are dear, dear friends of mine.
“I love them both as brothers, but there was a time in my life [where] I was Will Smith at that moment, and let me tell you, I’ve done worse than Will.” Although Terry was very diplomatic with his answer, one thing he did not hold back on was his praise for Chris.
He expanded on how the comedian should be lauded for refraining from responding towards Will. After all, on one of the biggest nights of his career, Chris was ultimately humiliated in front of a global audience.
This was very hard to take, especially since he was merely doing his job. But by being the bigger person, Chris’ popularity has only gone on to increase. In comparison, Will does face questions concerning his acting career, at least in the short-term anyway.
Terry added: “What Chris did, by just deciding to hold everything together, it actually, I think in a lot of ways saved Hollywood…the true definition of toughness was what Chris did in taking a punch and then holding everything together.”
Chris has certainly come out stronger after this, with his comedy shows selling out across the states. But whether Will receives the same love going forward is anyone’s guess. Time will tell.
