Steven Seagal has given his take on the Russia-Ukraine war which has devastated the latter country.
Steven Seagal Slammed For His Response To The Russia-Ukraine War-‘So Basically, He Supports The Invasion’
The two countries have been at war ever since Russia decided to launch an attack via Belarus. Their attacks have been met by stern resistance with Ukrainian forces responding in kind, coupled with the fact that the European community has called for strenuous measures to be imposed against Russia including sanctions.
And given that Steven does have a Russian passport, despite being born in America, he understandably does have some ties to the conflict. But rather than siding with one particular country, he simply wanted to see peace as soon as possible.
In an interview with Fox News, he said: “I look at both as one family and really believe it is an outside entity spending huge sums of money on propaganda to provoke the two countries.
“My prayers are that both countries will come to a positive, peaceful resolution where we can live & thrive together in peace.” Nevertheless, Steven has not proved popular with Ukraine for the following reasons.
First of all, he is known to be a supporter of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This has been seen in response to his comments about the tensions between Russia and Ukraine prior to the war breaking out.
He had defended Putin’s decision to annex Crimea, and his attitude resulted in Ukraine banning him from entering the country for around 5 years. Not only that, but he also has some other things in common with Putin.
They are both very accomplished people within the field of martial arts, and their great relationship was confirmed when Putin gave the actor Russian citizenship in 2016. The response on social media was very critical of the actor.
They felt that he should have called out the Russian regime, given that they were the ones who had launched the attack in the first place. One person wrote: “So basically, he supports the invasion.”
With Steven having Russian citizenship, it is not surprising that he refrained from saying anything scathing towards the country. But that ultimately drew criticism from the public.
