Steve Irwin‘s son, Robert Irwin, takes a baby turtle for his first swim in a heartwarming video. Robert is the first to breed and hatch the turtle species his father, Steve, discovered.

The little guy is so cute and compact you can’t help but fall in love. He fits perfectly in the palm of Robert’s hand. The tiny shell is too precious. Robert is carrying on his father’s legacy and love of all creatures.

    The Adorable Irwin Turtle

When Robert says in the video, “I don’t get emotional much,” you will see so much of his father in him. The kindness and humanity that we saw in Steve is evident through his son, Robert.

His face lights up joyfully as he gently drops the tiny baby into the water for his first adventure. The turtle swims off and down to the bottom of the pond, and you will see Robert beaming.

The tiny turtle in the video is from the Elseya Irwini family, or you can simply call it an Irwin turtle. This charming species was established in 1990 by Steve Irwin and his father, Bob Irwin.

    Female Irwin Turtle

The father and son discovered the Irwin turtle while they were camping on the banks of the Burdekin River.

These turtles exist along a small pocket of north-eastern Queensland in the Broken-Bowen River system and the river’s lower portion.

    They Breathe Through Their Bums

They saw the turtle’s large, short-necked head poking up out of the water, and being environmentalists, they decided they should snap a few pics.

These turtles are fascinating; adorably, they take in water through gill-like structures and breathe through their baby bums or cloaca.

It also serves multiple purposes, including digestive, reproductive, and urinary functions. This form of breathing is their superpower that helps them stay underwater.

They have another unique trait. The female form of the Irwin turtle has a very pale face, pink nose, and yellow cheeks. They will happily greet you when they come up out of the water.

Conservation of the Species is Very Important

Other than Australia, you can see these turtles at the National Aquarium. Irwin turtles are not seen too often, and the research on them is an ongoing project. We do not know a lot about the species.

However, conservationists know that these babies must be protected, as they are vulnerable to changes in habitat and structure development. Irwin turtles require fresh, oxygenated water to be able to breathe correctly.

We should conserve the Irwin turtle’s habitat and protect them. All populations of these turtles are precious. These species are rare freshwater turtles.

Preserving riverside vegetation can help protect these little beauties. Doing this maintains water quality and protects nesting banks and food for the turtles.

You can also visit wildlifewarriors.org and help save these adorable critters.

It is great to see Robert Irwin helping to further the conservation and research of these creatures. His father would have been proud.

It is funny how these videos remind you about the beauty of nature and how special and fragile it is.

This incredible little video will brighten your day if you love animals and are fond of anything as darling as a baby turtle.
