In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry states that Meghan Markle received unsolicited presents while residing at Kensington Palace, even though the custom in the Royal Family is to send back such donations.
‘Spare’ Prince Harry Accidentally OUTS Meghan Markle For Bragging About Receiving Freebies While At Kensington Palace & Going Against Custom-‘Perfumes And Make Up’
Furthermore, he reveals that not only did she keep some of the freebies, but she also shared them with her staff. In his book, Harry wrote: “She shared all the freebies she received, clothes and perfumes and make-up, with all the women in the office.”
According to marketing specialists, when a person belonging to the Royal Family is photographed wearing something, it can increase the value of the item. It has been observed that clothes worn by the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, tend to vanish from stores within minutes of her being pictured wearing them.
Therefore, members of the Royal Family pay for their own garments to prevent from being perceived as a business. Harry includes this fact in his statement, probably to dispute prior stories that his wife was impolite to palace personnel. After all, she had been accused of bullying members of royal staff previously.
Harry’s following comments confirmed as much: “I never heard her speak a bad word about anybody, or to anybody. On the contrary, I watched her redouble her efforts to reach out, to spread kindness.
“She sent out handwritten thank you notes, checked on staff who were ill, sent baskets of food or flowers or goodies to anyone struggling, depressed, off sick.” Nevertheless, the response on social media was brutal.
A significant proportion of people made it clear that royal members of staff had not backed up what Harry was saying. One person wrote: “It’s very surprising then that not one of these staff. He says she was so wonderful to have come out in support of her and spoken up.”
