Actress Sophie Turner has opened up on how her eating disorder got out of control.

The star admitted that she had such a condition in 2019, and ever since that moment, it has been a battle to stay on the straight path. And this was not helped by the fact that her struggles first began to materialise during her teenage years.

So much so that Sophie admitted she had problems menstruating during this period. That is when she made the decision to see a therapist when she was just 19 after becoming increasingly unwell to the point where she had suicidal thoughts.

That is why she had resorted to having a therapist, who lived with her. In an interview with Elle, Sophie said: “[I had] a live-in therapist, who would ensure I wasn’t doing anything unhealthy with my eating habits.” One of the factors that made Sophie have a complicated relationship with her body was the presence of social media.

And given that she is in a profession where there is an expectation on her to conform to a certain appearance, coupled with the fact that her image is going to be subjected to negative scrutiny by online trolls, it did start to have an impact on her.

As a result, Sophie’s mental health began to deteriorate. She added: “One night, I was playing over and over in my mind a comment I’d seen on Instagram. I was like, ‘I’m so fat, I’m so undesirable,’ and spinning out.”

Nevertheless, Sophie has come a long way since then. And she credited the role that her husband Joe Jonas has played in doing this. The couple’s relationship could not be going any better, which has been aided by the fact that they welcomed their daughter (Willia) last year.

And by having such a support network, it ultimately kept Sophie in a positive mindset. Her following comments confirmed much: “I think he kind of saved my life, in a way.”

It is great to see Sophie in a much better place and Iong may that continue. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
