Will Smith’s upcoming movie ‘Emancipation’ is reportedly set to be delayed with a potential release date now being pushed back to 2023.

According to reports, an official release had not been set for the movie. However, there was an expectation that it was going to be dropping at the back end of this year in Autumn.
But ever since Will was involved in the slapgate incident at the Oscars, in which he lashed out at comedian Chris Rock because the latter had made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss, there has been constant speculation over the actor’s future.
Regardless of when the film is released, this decision is hardly surprising for the following reasons. First of all, Will is not exactly the most popular person of late. Therefore, until a significant amount of time has passed, then the chances of Will being accepted back into the public arena as he was before are slim.
Secondly, in any event, Will has taken steps in order to make sure that his mental health is in a good place. He has been pictured in India, with sources indicating that the trip was done for spiritual purposes.
And as part of that process, this included the actor allegedly undergoing therapy. As such, getting involved in a movie that would most likely require him to do a lot of promotional work is probably not the wisest move as of now.
The fans on social media were not enthusiastic about the prospect of seeing Will in another movie. A certain subset of people were of the view that Will could not be allowed to come back to the industry without having had a stringent punishment.
Meanwhile, others were of the view that they had no time for the movie. One person wrote: “Push it to 2024, still wouldn’t waste my time on him or his family.”
