Senator Ted Cruz has rallied in defence of Gina Carano after she was fired from the Disney show The Mandalorian after making alleged anti-Semitic remarks.

He told his followers on Twitter that the actress had made Star Wars relevant again. He said: “Texan Gina Carano broke barriers in the Star Wars universe: not a princess, not a victim, not some emotionally tortured Jedi. She played a woman who kicked a** & who girls looked up to. She was instrumental in making Star Wars fun again. Of course, Disney cancelled her.”

This all started after Gina’s controversial posts on Instagram. At the time she said: “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbours even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbours hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”

The comments drew an immediate response from LucasFilms who issued the following statement: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm, and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

And yet, Disney was accused of hypocrisy after another Mandalorian co-star Pedro Pascal, compared American ICE centres to Nazi concentration camps but was not fired. This produced a barrage of tweets in response to the claims. Donald Trump Jr tweeted: “Same Movie as @ginacarano, same analogy, though the pic has the wrong date. I’m told it was 2010 under Obama/Biden. So does @Disney discriminate against women for doing what their male actors do or is only discrimination against conservatives?”

While Matt Walsh (a blogger) said: “Not only did Pedro Pascal, an actor on The Mandalorian, compare the United States and Nazi Germany, but he did so with a photo of “America in 2018″ that is not actually from 2018 and also not actually from America. He still has his job.”

We will have to see if there are any further repercussions. If you enjoyed reading this article, then make sure you check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish. Please also visit TVRocker for all of the latest exciting news on all of your favourite daytime television soaps
