Selena Gomez has responded to the backlash that she and Aaron Dominguez had received in recent months over rumours that they were dating.

Although she dismissed the dating rumours, she hit out at those who sought to put Aaron down. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Selena stated how annoying these incidents were. She said: “We had just started working together. I honestly thought, ‘No wonder guys don’t want to date me! I think people only care because I’m young, and the older I get, the less they’ll care.
“For now, it’s a part of the job that I don’t really like. I’m actually grateful that I’m not involved with anyone right now.” The response by fans was very hostile, to say the least. One member had expressed just how protective they were over Selena: “Yo ugly ass boy, stay the f—k away from Selena. She deserves better.” Selena, for her part, has also suffered from intense social media scrutiny.
This has been down to her previous relationship with Justin Bieber. Their relationship was well publicised, and so when it came to an end, the word almost stood still for a second. And fans have never forgotten that. This most recently came to a head when a fan urged people to troll Hailey Bieber’s video to highlight how Selena was better than Hailey.
The comment in question said: “This is the time where they will not be turning off comments. So we need to f—king bombard that s—t with Jelena and how Selena is better. Go after her, please, let’s all go after her.” Although Selena did not respond, Justin did hit back. He said: “This sad excuse of a human just encouraged people on video to literally go after my wife, telling people to say that my previous relationship was better.
“I just wanted to share this so that people get an idea of what we face on a day to day.” Whether Selena is actually in a relationship with Aaron is immaterial. What is more important is that when it does arise, whoever steps up must be able to deal with such scrutiny.
