On Friday, 17th March 2023, Selena Gomez achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first woman ever to garner 400 million followers on Instagram.

This major feat she accomplished was shortly after surpassing Kylie Jenner as the most followed celebrity on the platform.
Jenner has a huge following of 382 million on Instagram where she posts pictures of her daily life and advertises her makeup line, Kylie Cosmetics.
Gomez, who is 30 years old, is ranked third in terms of followers on Instagram, with only soccer players Cristiano Ronaldo (562 million followers) and Lionel Messi (442 million followers) ahead of her.
It should be noted that in 2019, she was the most followed woman on the site before being overtaken by Ariana Grande and later Kylie Jenner.
Selena, despite having a huge fan following, has revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that she has reduced her social media usage and now only uses the TikTok app on her phone.
She further shared that negative comments from trolls have hurt her, and she considers excessive use of social media as a waste of time.
In some comments at the time, she remarked: “People can call me ugly or stupid and I’m like, Whatever. But these people get detailed.
“They write paragraphs that are so specific and mean. I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety…I couldn’t do it anymore. It was a waste of my time.”
This is understandable since the singer has been involved in various controversies. She has had to deal with comments that have subjected her to body shaming.
Not only that, but she was involved with an online feud involving Hailey Bieber, with claims that the latter had bullied her online.
Despite this being the case, the vast majority of people were delighted to see Selena continuing to grow in light of what she had been through.
And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media, as the comments were very positive indeed.
One person wrote: “Selena Gomez is now the most followed female artist on Instagram and Tiktok. A global queen.”
While another person stated: “Selena Gomez is once again the most followed woman on Instagram. Queen is back.”
It is fair to say that Selena is more popular than ever if she does have some reservations about using social media.
