Sarah Ferguson delivered what critics call an out-of-place diatribe about the environment at the Cannes Film Festival party for amfAR.
Fergie Was Criticized For “Not Reading The Room
amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, is a non-profit organization. It seeks to improve treatment for AIDS and HIV prevention on a global scale.
Sarah lost her cool, ordered the audience to “be quiet,” and scolded them for “looking for the next party” when they should be more concerned about the climate crisis.
The Duchess of York shouted at the audience to “stop, stop, stop!” The clip was posted on Instagram by model and America’s Got Talent judge Heidi Klum, who attended the event.
“Quiet because the incredible person Simon de Pury has done an amazing job tonight; this is exceptional, and all I want to say to everyone in the room right now is stop, stop, stop,”
Sarah Ferguson exclaimed.
Simon de Pury auctioned off a painting of the deceased Queen Elizabeth. Ferguson shushed the crowd and told them, “This was my mother-in-law,” as she pointed at the portrait.
“Did you see I removed the microphone because all of you are saying I want to go, because where is the next party? What are we meant to be doing next,” she continued. “But what I want to say is, why are we here? What is the future, and why are we not making our planet better for the youth of tomorrow?”
Fergie has been criticized for her “hypocritical” outburst and for not “reading the room,” as most people who attended amfAR were only there to see Cher.
Sarah Ferguson also reflected upon her experiences with the royal family, which many said felt like the wrong time to make these remarks.
Fergie Said That She’s “Put Cancer In The Corner”
Fergie is an ambassador for Gen Z, which means she aims to speak to people between the ages of 13 and 26. She says she understands them and knows how it feels to be judged.
Sarah also wanted to apologize to these young people because the older generations are responsible for destroying the planet, and the current state of the environment is unacceptable.
Ferguson shared that she’s “put cancer in the corner” after receiving two diagnoses in less than a year. She was first diagnosed with breast malignancy in June 2023. Then, in January 2024, she revealed she was diagnosed with melanoma.
Doctors caught Fergie’s breast cancer early during a routine mammogram. She underwent a single mastectomy at King Edward’s VII hospital. This medical facility is known for treating the royal family.
Surgeons discovered malignant melanoma during surgery, and she had several moles removed. She continues to recover from her illness.
According to her daughter, Princess Beatrice, her mother, Sarah’s sense of purpose and resilience keeps her going. Beatrice also wants to clarify that when dealing with any type of health diagnosis, it is essential to lean on your family.
Fergie, who now has the “all-clear” from her doctors, said,
“This evening, I am doing very well. I think we’ve managed to get cancer in the right place rather than cancer ruling me.”
