Talk about a new twist of events. There’s a new report that suggests Alec Baldwin may not have pulled the trigger in the deadly shooting that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead on the set of Rust back in October. This, of course, is leading to even more questions as to how she died and who in fact might have killed her. Here’s what you need to know.

According to new reports, Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies told Vanity Fair she had watched Alec Baldwin’s bombshell interview with ABC in December and was drawn to the actor’s claim that he did not pull the trigger.

As it’s been reported many times by now, Halyna Hutchins died after Alec Baldwin allegedly shot and killed the cinematographer on accident while on the set of the film.

A video created by the attorneys showed an animated recreation of the shooting. The attorneys said in the video that Baldwin had turned down training for the kind of gun draw he was doing when he shot Hutchins.

“You can pull the hammer back without actually pulling the trigger and without actually locking it,” Carmack-Altwies said. “So you pull it back partway, it doesn’t lock, and then if you let it go, the firing pin can hit the primer of the bullet.”

This comes after reports that suggest the Hutchins family is ready to sue the pants off the Hollywood actor. Lawyers for the family of Halyna Hutchins announced the lawsuit filed in New Mexico in the name of Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins, and their son, Andros, at a Los Angeles news conference. At least three other lawsuits have been filed over the shooting, but this is the first directly tied to one of the two people shot.

Last month, nearly three months after the shooting, Baldwin turned over his mobile phone to authorities in his home state of New York. They gathered information from the phone and provided it to Santa Fe County investigators, who had obtained a warrant for it.
