Dave Halls, the assistant director on the set of ‘Rust’, has spoken out through his attorney following Alec Baldwin’s prop gun incident, which killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.

Dave, for his part, has come under fire of late due to the suspicion that he did not do his job to the best of his ability during his time on the set.
And yet, this account has been denied by Dave’s attorney, Lisa Torraco. In an interview with Fox News, Lisa said: “This idea my client grabbed the gun and handed it to Baldwin absolutely did not happen.”
Nevertheless, Lisa started to backtrack on her comments by refusing to actually address whether Dave did give the gun or not. This created further doubt about the authenticity of Dave’s account.
It is not clear whether Lisa made a mistake or is simply trying to cover her client. But either way, it is not a good look. Therefore, she did not believe that whether Dave gave the gun to Alec was anything important.
She added: “[It] doesn’t matter [who gave the gun as it is] not the assistant director’s job.” This begs the question, who was the one in charge of the gun?
Well, according to Lisa, it was the armourer on set, who was apparently, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. The former has previously spoken on how safety protocols were not implemented in the way that she had apparently wanted them to.
As such, Lisa feels Dave is innocent. She continued: “The armourer brought the weapon in. The armourer opens the firearm… [Halls] didn’t load it.” Regardless of who gave the gun, it is important to note that this increasing speculation is harming everyone that is involved.
Not only is Halyna’s family not getting any closure, but the people who were associated with the film are also having their reputation questioned, such as Dave.
Let us hope that the authorities can get to the bottom of this and hold the people who were responsible to account. After all, something has to be done to bring something out of this incident that was so tragic.
