Prince Harry turned down an invitation to King Charles’s birthday, and he once again rejects his father’s olive branch. The monarch’s 75th birthday is a significant milestone. However, his son will be MIA, marking a noticeable no-show at the upcoming shindig.
The event will take place at Clarence House in London, and the King’s family and closest friends are set to be in attendance. Prince Harry’s glaring absence will be felt as the family will celebrate without him.
Prince Harry and His Relationship with His Father is Strained
Harry’s relationship with the King and Prince William has been substantially damaged by Harry’s tell-all memoir, “Spare,” in which he trashes his family and explains how hard it is to be a Prince. Cue the violin.
King Charles will celebrate his birthday on November 14th. Earlier this year, Harry also rejected his invite to spend the anniversary of the Queen’s death with his father at Balmoral in Scotland.
Prince Harry has expressed his desire to reconcile with his family but has reportedly said that he needs to hear an apology from both King Charles and Prince William.
There is a good reason for the lack of communication between Harry and his father. The Duke of Sussex’s depiction of Queen Camilla in his book was too much for King Charles to bear.
The Duke accused his stepmother, Camilla, of being “dangerous” and a “villain” who “left bodies in the street.”
Harry had this to say about Camilla in “Spare,” “I have complex feelings about gaining a step-parent who I thought had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar.”
He also inferred that his father and Camilla had made up lies about Prince William and his family, “Give PR and Camila an inch, and they take a mile.”
Five years have made all the difference, as the rift between father and son has only grown stronger. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle postponed their honeymoon to celebrate the King’s 70th birthday with the royal family.
Tension Began with Infamous “Megxit”
The tension and animosity between the Sussexes and his Majesty over the past three years has been palpable, as Harry and Meghan have accused the royals of treating them poorly time and time again.
It started when The Duke and Duchess stepped down as working affiliates of the royal family to move to California. Since then, a lot has been said and done.
Harry and Meghan said in their 2021 Oprah interview that the royals made racist remarks about their baby, Lillibet.
“Spare” was the final straw. It perpetuated an already escalating feud. King Charles has reportedly refused to read the memoir. The book gave the public an intimate portrayal of his life within the royal family.
According to a source close to the royals, King Charles has “no interest in reading something that might further strain their already strained family relationships.”
Harry and his father still don’t speak very often because of all this. Prince Harry attended King Charles’s coronation at Westminster Abbey in May.
However, the royal family did not make mention of Harry’s birthday this past September. The challenges in these relationships raise concerns that there may not be a reconciliation any time soon.
