The royal family has been issued a warning about Meghan Markle’s upcoming podcast. She inked a deal with Lemonada Media for millions of dollars less than the deal she had with Spotify.
Meghan Markle’s Creative Control and A Brighter Spotlight Will Exist at Lemonada
The trade-off is because of the company’s smaller size. Meghan will have more creative control and a brighter spotlight at Lemonada. This will provide a better fit for her. Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Sarah Silverman also have podcasts on the network.
Meghan Markle’s Spotify podcast Archetypes was dropped because it failed to generate enough money for the audio platform. Harry and Meghan were called “f***ing grifters” by Bill Simmons, a Spotify executive after the deal fizzled.
A source close to the royal family has warned that the Duchess could drop some fresh royal bombshells on her podcast.
Another source near Meghan said she will use this podcast to “share stories about her life,” including her time as a working royal. In other words, she will “do some inner reflecting.”
Lemonada will re-release Meghan Markle’s Archetypes podcast so that it will be available to a broader range of audiences, and she will also produce new content.
Earlier this year, Harry and Meghan shared a statement on their new website, Sussex.com, announcing Meghan’s partnership with Lemonada.
This new deal could potentially make or break Meghan since her failed Spotify deal left such a negative impression.
The Duchess has much to prove; the podcast could elevate her brand or be another significant embarrassment.
Meghan needs to select her guests thoughtfully and make meaningful contributions to the company to be considered a true player in the podcast game.
Meghan Could Use the Platform to Complain About the Royal Family
Using the platform to complain about the royal family again would be considered unclassy. Meghan’s reputation is on the line with this.
She needs to make a significant impact. This will garner high ratings, and also attract the audience she is aiming for.
An entertainment expert explains that the challenge for Meghan is to “deliver value for money.” Meghan must watch what she says about the royal family because people may expect her to discuss her experiences with them.
One PR expert explains,
“I think deep down, a large part of the British public is rooting for Prince Harry and Prince Willaim to rediscover the closeness they once had. Whether there is any truth in it or not, people are quick to blame Meghan for their fractured relationship, making her into a sort of Yoko Ono figure.”
It might be a good idea for Meghan to help Harry build a bridge toward reconciling with his family. She could be seen more positively if she played an active role in helping heal the royal rift.
Despite the continued controversy, Meghan is happy to join the Lemonada team.
“I’m proud to now be able to share that I am joining the brilliant team at Lemonada to continue my love of podcasting,”
Meghan beamed.
“Being able to support a female-founded company with a roster of thought-provoking and highly entertaining podcasts is a fantastic way to kick off 2024.”
