Comedian Rosie O’Donnell has blasted the Oscars for doing ‘nothing’ against Will Smith for slapping Chris Rock.

The ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ star became outraged when the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith by referencing her hair loss, as a result of her alopecia.
In response, Will decided to slap the comedian and then cuss him out before sitting down. And given that Will did walk away with the best actor award for his role in ‘King Richard’ it did put a dampener on the overall ceremony.
Thus, by not condemning Will, Rosie felt that the Oscars had failed everyone. In a statement on her Twitter, she pinned the following comments: “So upsetting – on every level – bravo to Chris Rock – for not eviscerating will smith – which he could do any day of the week.
“He walked away – bravo from a sad display of toxic masculinity from a narcissistic madman.” Those comments certainly do ring true for the following reasons. First of all, the incident did leave a negative mark on the ceremony for those watching around the world.
And as Will won’t face any punishment, since Chris is not filing charges, there is a feeling that the actor needs to be held accountable. Secondly, Will’s Oscar award has now been tainted forever as the most important moment of his career has been clouded by the scandal.
And this negative sentiment was reflected in the comments that followed on social media. A significant proportion of people blasted the actor for the manner in which he had acted. So much so that some even went on to suggest that he needed to have his award removed.
One source wrote: “Having Will Smith ‘Removed’ from Oscars Was ‘Definitely Discussed Seriously.” Will have to consider his options carefully going forward. Now that the spotlight is firmly on him, it is probably wise that he tries to keep a low profile so that this story does die down.
