This was the main reason as to why Heather had decided to rejoin the show this season, as she spoke on wanting to showcase a different side to her family.
Although that may have been the case, the very fact of the matter is that not everybody was so welcoming with the admission.
And yet, for Heather, she could not be any happier by having the opportunity to tell a story that not many mothers would be able to do.
In an interview on ‘Watch What Happens Live’, Heather said: “We’ve got these four kids with different genders, different sexualities.
“This should be a normal conversation in all kinds of homes across our country, and we want to help normalize that.’ So it makes me really proud!”
Despite Heather’s enthusiasm, there is no denying that it has taken a significant toll on the mental health of her kids, given that they have had to see their sexuality being played out in front of the TV screens.
While that has helped them to become comfortable with who they are, by virtue of the fact that there is no way of hiding anywhere, it has nevertheless been difficult.
Heather added: “It’s a lot. I think that they have mixed feelings about it, but I’m incredibly proud of them.
“And I think that they all feel like they’re helping people and helping start conversations in other households, and that means a lot.”
Ultimately, there is always going to be some criticism from a certain subset of people. But the most important thing is that Heather is able to manage that along with her children and live a life that allows them to be happy.
After all, that was the main reason why she decided to return to the franchise. So by abandoning that, she would be abandoning her very own principles.
