Porsha Williams, who was best known for being on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, has opened up on her long-term battle with depression which made her contemplate the thought of committing suicide.

The star left the show after being on it for an impressive ten years. And given that the cameras are no longer being pointed towards her, she wants to express her story, which she feels has gone unnoticed.

In her new book entitled ‘The Pursuit of Porsha’, she spoke on the many traumatic experiences that she went through. Some of these included abusive relationships, all of which contributed to her wanting to end her life.

During an interview with People magazine, Porsha stated how those experiences eventually made her stronger. She said: “I wanted to talk about those moments of despair, how I came out of them, and what it took to get there.

“Everything I have been through has made me the woman I am today.” Despite going through those difficult experiences as a child, Porscha did not understand the significance of it until she got a lot older.

Her problems really began to take hold during her time in high school when she admitted that she was being bullied as a result of her body and appearance. This was when the thought of suicide cropped up in her mind.

She added: “I was too young to even understand what I was dealing with. It wasn’t until I was about 29 that I really identified with the word depression.”

But through it all, she managed to come out the other side. She has a 2-year-old daughter, by the name of Pilar, that she welcomed with her ex Dennis McKinley.

Although the duo may no longer be together, they have managed to put their differences aside in order to ensure that co-parenting arrangements are in place for the benefit of their kid. These experiences taught her a lot about life.

She continued: “I developed different skills to survive. Like speaking positively to myself and not focusing in on all of the negative.”

Porsche’s story serves as an example to others that they can overcome anything. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
