Burt Bacharach, one of the most successful songwriters and composers in American history, has passed away. He was the author of huge successes including “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” and “I Say a Little Prayer.”

According to his publicist, Bacharach passed away on Wednesday at his Los Angeles home from natural causes. A number of Dionne Warwick songs, including “Do You Know The Way to San Jose,” “Walk on By,” “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again,” and “Don’t Make Me Over,” were written by Bacharach and his writing partner Hal David.

Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley, Dusty Springfield, Frank Sinatra, and Tom Jones are just a few of the musicians that have covered his tunes.

Even though the eight-time Grammy winner was widely regarded as a maestro of easy listening, musicians from different musical genres have covered his songs, including Luther Vandross, Marty Robbins, Elvis Costello, and even The Carpenters. He and David wrote “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’s soundtrack which featured “Raindrops.” The soundtrack for the movie won them two Academy Awards.

Motown record label founder Berry Gordy said, “Over the years, no matter who Burt collaborated with, there was always a recognizable “Bacharach” sound and magic to his songs. He was a unique writer whose music always touched my heart. I will miss him, but I know Burt’s amazing legacy will live on forever.”

Together with his ex-wife Carole Bayer Sager, Burt also co-wrote a number of popular songs. For “Best That You Can Do,” the theme from “Arthur,” they even received an Oscar. He entered into four marriages in all, including a 15-year union with the actress Angie Dickinson. In 1993, when he and Jane Hansen got hitched, he had his final wedding.

Burt, 94, is survived by his three children and Jane.
