Margaret Atwood, the author of Handmaid’s Tale, has received criticism for claiming that a lower-ranking member of the Royal Family would have killed Prince Harry.

Prince Harry ‘Would Have Been Murdered,’ Says Margaret Atwood

Atwood made this peculiar statement during an interview where she expressed her belief that it is fortunate that the Windsors do not wield the same amount of influence as previous royal families.

Her comments confirmed the following: “An admirer of Game of Thrones, Attwood thinks Prince Harry, the self-described “spare”, is lucky to be born into a royal family that has been stripped of real power. Otherwise ‘he probably would have been murdered by somebody lower down in the food chain to get him out the way.”

Those comments must be read in light of the following. First of all, Harry has been very vocal in his attacks against the firm. This has been seen through his memoir, Spare, and Netflix docuseries, which included claims that his brother, Prince William, assaulted him.

Secondly, given that Harry has not shown any willingness to give up his royal titles as of yet, it has created a perception that he is exploiting the firm. And yet, according to reports, Harry is facing eviction from Frogmore Cottage, a residence that was given to him by the deceased Queen Elizabeth II. Therefore, this has been the response given to the Duke.

A few insiders close to the King have stated that he is furious about the accusations made by Harry in his newly published memoir. It is believed that King Charles is primarily unhappy with Harry’s criticisms of his spouse.

The response on social media, however, was one of outrage. A certain subset of people felt that Atwood’s comments were inflammatory and out of order. One person wrote: “Lucky you weren’t born in the 1700s eh! You probably would have been enslaved or beaten to death for speaking.”

So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
