Prince Harry declined King Charles’s offer to stay at a royal residence during his last visit to the UK. The Duke of Sussex used to live at Frogmore Cottage with Meghan Markle before they stepped down from their royal duties and chose to stay at a hotel.
A Spokesperson for Harry Claimed The King Was Too Busy To See Him
Harry went to Britain for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. There was much speculation over whether Harry and his father would see each other during his last trip to London. Inside sources claim that Prince Harry declined the invitation due to security concerns.
Harry is quite upset about his recent loss in court and the removal of his police protection. He is still battling with the Home Office over the issue.
A spokesperson for Harry claimed that the King was “too busy” to see his son. The statement that was provided was,
“In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not the Duke will meet his father while in the UK this week, unfortunately, it will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full program. The Duke, of course is understanding of his father’s diary and commitments and various other priorities. He hopes to see him soon.”
However, Charles did offer Harry a stay at an undisclosed royal residence. Still, it wasn’t the total package the Prince wanted with special security provisions, and he elected to bunk at a hotel instead.
Charles took a lot of heat over his alleged “rejection” of his son, but if Harry accepted the invitation, it could have been an opportunity for him to spend time with his father.
It isn’t known where Harry would stay, but it was probably St. James Place. Princess Beatrice has a permanent apartment there. Also, Princess Anne has a suite of rooms and a parking place she uses when staying in London.
Harry Wanted Special Security Provisions
St. James Place is close to Clarence House, where the monarch stays when he is in London. It was foolish of Harry not to stay at the residence and lie to the press to gain sympathy. Had he stayed there, he would have had round-the-clock security, as all royal residences have armed officers guarding the gates and to-of-the-line security systems.
While the King was busy with the first garden party of the season and meeting with the Prime Minister of Fiji, he would have likely made time to see his son.
Harry’s taxpayer-funded security was discontinued, and he’s been trying to battle the Home Office, claiming he was treated unfairly.
He’s determined to fight for security despite being told by the court repeatedly that since he is no longer a working royal. Because of this, he cannot continue to have the same privileges as one.
The Duke of Sussex doesn’t feel safe about his family coming to the UK to visit. He even offered to pay for his own security but was told that the police couldn’t be his hired help.
Whatever issues Harry has with his security arrangements, he should have made a better effort with his father, as he announced his cancer diagnosis in February.
