According to author Tom Quinn, when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle named their daughter, Lilibet, the Duke was aware that this gesture might be viewed by some as impolite towards the deceased Queen Elizabeth II.

On 4th June, 2021, Lilibet was born in California, America, and she is presently seventh in line for the throne. As a young child, the late Queen used to call herself Lilibet because her name was difficult to pronounce. The nickname which was given to her stuck over time and was used by her close family members, including her deceased husband Prince Philip, during their conversations.

In his book, Tom wrote: “He surely would have known that appropriating the monarch’s beloved childhood nickname would be perceived by many as disrespectful and intrusive in a way that naming their daughter Elizabeth would have not been.”

According to Quinn, some observers believed that choosing the name Lilibet was a calculated move by the couple to increase their value in the public eye after leaving the Royal Family. However, he argues that Meghan’s intention was always to pay tribute to the Queen, and she did not anticipate that the name would be seen as disrespectful by the British people.

And yet, the fact that the couple have continued to speak out against the firm, as shown by their Netflix documentary, as well as Harry’s book memoir. The response on social media was very clear. Large numbers of people were of the view that the claims had been exaggerated since the couple had every right to choose what they thought was best.

One person wrote: “Nothing disrespectful about it, end of.” There is no way of taking away the name now, which is why the couple’s attacks against the firm are not making things easier for them.
