According to reports, Prince Harry’s recent memoir contains some surprising assertions about the Nazi uniform controversy, suggesting that his brother, Prince William, and sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, had some responsibility for it.
Outrage As Prince Harry Blames William And Kate For His Nazi Uniform Blunder
At the age of twenty, Harry’s image was featured wearing a Nazi soldier uniform with a vivid red swastika armband. The costume party he attended had a theme of “Native and Colonial” and his brother William also showed up, dressed in a lion costume.
The Duke of Sussex will assert that the Prince and Princess of Wales were filled with ‘laughter’ when they saw him in it. In one section of the publication, which was acquired by Page Six, Harry wrote about deciding on the outfit, disclosing that he was uncertain between two costumes: a pilot’s uniform or a Nazi uniform.
He wrote: “I phoned Willy and Kate, asked what they thought. Nazi uniform, they said. They both howled. Worse than Willy’s leotard outfit! Way more ridiculous! Which, again, was the point.”
The Duke of Sussex has labelled the Nazi incident as a regrettable blunder, yet a senior publishing figure who has read Harry’s “Spare” said that it is odd that Harry wouldn’t accept all the responsibility and instead accuse his brother of some responsibility in the scandal.
Royal expert Robert Lacey confirmed as much: “Harry chose his costume in conjunction with his elder brother — the future King William V, then 22, who had laughed all the way back to Highgrove (Charles’ country home) with the younger sibling he was supposed to be mentoring — and then onwards to the party together.”
The response on social media was one of outrage. This was on the basis that Harry was seeking to evade taking responsibility for his actions. One person wrote: “You’d think he’d have some self-awareness at this point. All that incident shows is how easily he’s swayed by others.
