Harry and Meghan’s crusade to get back in Hollywood’s good graces has been put into motion with the couple attending Kevin Costner’s charity affair for first responders.
Harry and Meghan hobnobbed with Hollywood elites like Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres. The event took place at Kevin Costner’s Summerland estate in Santa Barbara.
The event, called One805 Live, is a non-profit organization that supports first responders in Santa Barbara. It provides financial aid and mental health services to the men in uniform. After the Invictus games, they showed up at the event and made chit-chat with Costner.
Harry and Meghan also conversed with senior police and firefighters backstage, appearing relaxed and happy to be there.
Costner spoke at the event,
“Good afternoon, everyone. I get asked a lot by my friends who have no manners….”Kev, what’s this place cost, what’s it worth? I can simply tell you on a day like today, it’s worth every penny. We can celebrate people that maybe you’d never meet, the ones who are the first to rush in. It’s a place where I’ve had a lot of good luck in my life, and I try not to put a wall around it.”
Meghan’s Embarrassing Moment
In an amusing turn of events, Meghan had an embarrassing moment when presenting Costner with an honorary award. Meghan tried to make a speech after a woman holding a microphone approached her.
The woman refused to give Meghan the microphone and walked right past her. Someone captured the moment on video, and it went viral.
Meghan appeared to be pushing and pulling Harry all over the stage like he was a child. Meghan also seemed agitated that Kevin Costner barely acknowledged her presence onstage.
A video posted on the charity’s Instagram story had Oprah presenting an award to firefighter Sam Dudley and his service dog, Rhoda.
Oprah delivered a moving speech about first responders and how the charity, which counseled over 700 first responders this year, prevented 24 suicides.
Harry presented Costner with an award for being the ambassador for One805.
Items Auctioned for Charity
Maroon 5 was the headlining performer at the event, treating everyone to a stellar performance. The lead singer, Adam Levine, thanked the first responders for their fortitude and steadfastness when giving their service to the community.
As part of One805 Live’s contribution, One805 auctioned off items and contributed the proceeds to charity.
Some items auctioned online were a guitar signed by Katy Perry, a drum signed by Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, and a Depeche Mode VIP concert experience.
Cruises were also available for auction and a flight over Santa Barbra. The proceeds gained through the auction will go towards purchasing equipment for the first responders and mental health services for them.
After the ceremony, Harry and Meghan took advantage of a photo opportunity with Katy Perry’s parents, Keith and Mary Hudson.
Harry and Meghan are making the rounds to get Hollywood to warm up to them again. This need for acceptance is the reason for their move to Malibu. They want to be seen hobnobbing with celebrities.
The couple was all over the charity event, getting their pictures taken and putting on a show.
