Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have spoken out against the concern surrounding Covid-19 and misinformation in light of the Spotify scandal.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Promise To ‘Work Together’ With Spotify Amid The Platform’s Criticism Of Promoting Covid-19 Misinformation
Spotify has come under increasing pressure on the basis that it has been accused of spreading misinformation by allowing podcast host Joe Rogan to air his views.
Joe has been accused of promoting misleading information surrounding the pandemic which included interviewing Dr Robert Malone, who disapproves of vaccines in children.
This was in addition to his own admission that he had taken Ivermectin, as an alternative to combat Covid.
In response, musicians such as Neil Young and Joni Mitchell withdrew their music from the platform in protest, with Harry and Meghan now facing calls to do the same in light of their Spotify deal.
That is why the couple wanted to set the record straight and alleviate any concerns. In an official statement, the couple expressed how they were working with the platform to tackle this crisis.
They said: “We have continued to express our concerns to Spotify to ensure changes to its platform are made to help address this public health crisis.
“We look to Spotify to meet this moment and are committed to continuing our work together as it does.” These comments would suggest that the two are not looking to boycott the platform.
This is understandable given that they would be walking away from a considerable amount of money, which is something that they will need as they are no longer dependent upon the riches of the Royal family.
However, by adopting such an approach, it does call into question their integrity. Harry had previously spoken out against misinformation which he felt was one of the biggest dangers impacting the world.
So much so that he went on to describe it as a ‘ humanitarian crisis’ which required immediate action. And yet, his policy here would suggest a more passive approach.
In light of this statement, there is a very realistic possibility that the two could be releasing some content on Spotify in the near future. After all, that could be the only plausible explanation for not cutting ties with the platform.
