Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been included in a group that is known as ‘nepo babies’, which is a term used to describe celebrities who have been granted affluent lifestyles due to the influence of their affluent parents or wealthy relatives.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been facing backlash from a few of their favoured US publications, including Variety, who have voiced their disapproval of their persistent criticism of the Royal Family and have given a lukewarm response to their Netflix docuseries.
‘Vulture’, a popular New York culture magazine, asked its readers to cast their votes throught the spread, ‘The Year of the Nepo Baby.’ The New York Magazine’s cover article regarding the ‘nepotism-filled universe’ has specified Meghan as one of the individuals.
The article went on to state the following comments: “They didn’t inherit a famous name, but did inherit connections and knowledge of the business’, before a nod to Thomas Markle, who worked as a Hollywood lighting director who brought his now estranged daughter on set.”
Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is a part of the privileged class, as her dad Thomas, who was an illumination director, aided her. When she was young, reports say she saw her father working as a lighting technician at ABC Studios in Los Angeles, and she was even featured in an episode of the popular TV series, Married… With Children.
As for Harry, well he was born into a family of royalty. The response on social media was much the same. A significant proportion of people made it clear that the couple had been riding off the success of the Royal Family.
As such, without that connection, no one would give them the time of day. One person wrote: “They’d be nothing without their royal connection. Aging z lister actress and her jobless middle-aged husband.”
