British Royal Family news suggests that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have certainly been keeping busy during the coronavirus quarantine. As a matter of fact, it’s just been announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have signed a major production deal with online streaming giant Netflix. Here’s what you need to know.
According to reports, the as-of-yet named company will be making documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming. The move comes just six months after the couple stepped down from their roles as senior royals and moved to Los Angeles.
British Royal Family News: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Headed To Netflix
As many royal fans know, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle pulled the plug on their working relationship with the British Royal Family back in January. It didn’t take very long for them to pack their bags and move from London to Los Angeles, where they have recently just purchased a $14 million dollar home for themselves.
“Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience and the need for connection,” Meghan and Harry said in a joint statement. “Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope. As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens.”
Netflix, which has 193 million subscribers worldwide, has not disclosed the financial terms of the deal, but it seems they are just as excited about it as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are.
“Harry and Meghan have inspired millions of people all around the world with their authenticity, optimism and leadership,” said Ted Sarandos, the co-CEO and chief content officer of Netflix. “We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home – and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere.”
