The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, confessed in a portion of his upcoming “60 Minutes” interview with Anderson Cooper that he may have been prejudiced before his romance with Meghan Markle began.
Prince Harry Admits That He May Have Been Bigoted Before He Began Dating Meghan Markle
He was referring to how the British press handled his wife, who is of mixed-race origin, when he brought up his own potential indiscretions. In his comments, he said: “You add in the race element, which was what the British press jumped on straight away.
“I went into this incredibly naive. I had no idea the British press was so bigoted. Hell, I was probably bigoted before the relationship with Meghan.” Harry has constantly spoken out against the British press for their unfavourable coverage of the former “Suits” actress since their romance was revealed.
In 2021, Harry and Markle declared that the British press, which they described as “toxic”, was a contributing factor in their decision to step away from the Royal Family. In addition, in their recently released Netflix series, “Harry & Meghan,” the couple exposed how the British press utilized Markle’s ethnicity to influence the narratives they created.
Harry stated that some members of the Royal Family were unable to recognise the influence that Markle’s race had on the media coverage she was given in comparison to the other members of the family. With that being said, this is what Harry had to say when Cooper asked if he was bigoted: “I don’t know.
“Put it this way, I didn’t see what I now see.” The fans on social media, though, had a different take on the matter. A certain subset of people were of the view that the issue of Meghan’s race was being exploited for the sake of publicity.
One person wrote: “Harry and the rest had no idea she was black anymore than anyone across the pond. She “passed” her whole life until she had an opportunity to monetise her black half.”
