Prince Andrew could reportedly lose the right to use his Royal title, if he loses his sexual assault case against Virginia Giuffre.
Reports Indicate That Prince Andrew Could Lose His Royal Title If Found Guilty Of Sexual Assault
That is according to various sources. Andrew’s life has become under increasing scrutiny ever since the allegations first came forward, which would seem to be part of the wider Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
And given that the latter’s girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell was recently found guilty, there is a feeling that Andrew could face a similar fate. And if that were to happen, then his Royal title could be at risk for the following reasons.
First of all, it would do an unprecedented amount out of damage to keep someone in the Royal family who had been convicted of sex offences.
After all, with there being such a growing movement towards an anti-monarchy stance, this would provide supporters of this the fuel to encourage others to join their cause.
Secondly, given that Meghan Markle has faced calls to have her Royal title removed simply because she decided to walk away from the Royal family in 2020, Andrew’s case is far more serious.
Therefore, in light of what Andrew has potentially done, it would be totally justifiable to have his Royal title removed. A source said: “If [Prince Andrew] loses the case, the question is what do you do with him?
“You can’t make him resign like you would a normal person but he would be asked to put his dukedom into abeyance.”
Despite the speculation going around, we are no closer to knowing whether this is an actual possibility. Such a move would end up damaging the relations between Queen Elizabeth II and her son.
Thus, it would be very hard to see how they would be able to come back from this. That is why insiders within the Royal family have remained very tight lipped on this.
In an official statement given by a representative on behalf of the monarchy, a spokesperson said: “This is speculation and the comments are without foundation.
“We would not comment on an ongoing legal matter.” Time will tell how it all plays out. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
