PR Experts Encourage Meghan Markle to Be More Down to Earth and Less “Self—Absorbed” On Her New Podcast

PR experts are encouraging Meghan Markle to be more down-to-earth and less “self-absorbed” on her new podcast.

Meghan Has a Shiny New Deal With Lemonada Media

Meghan has a shiny new deal with Lemonada Media to produce a podcast in which a wider audience will hear her Archetypes.

The Duchess of Sussex had a deal with Spotify terminated after it failed to impress listeners or generate much interest. Spotify executive Bill Simmons called Prince Harry and Meghan “f***ing grifters.”

He also remarked that he would need to get drunk one night and fill his listeners in on Harry’s morose podcast ideas when talking to him on the phone.

Spotify canceled their deal after less than a year. It was very disappointing to the company that had high hopes for Meghan’s podcast.

One of the ideas she included was talking to female celebrities about individual stereotypes of women. Each celebrity represented a stereotype.

A few examples: Tennis giant Serena Williams was ambitious, Mariah Carey was dubbed the “Diva,” and Paris Hilton was a bimbo. Meghan’s goal in each episode was to break down these stereotypes and discuss how they put limits on women in our society.

It actually sounds quite fascinating, but self-professed “feminist” Meghan Markle couldn’t help but talk about herself for much of the episode.

It was a personality quirk that caused listeners to turn off the show. Meghan has been granted a second chance to show she is more of a team player.

    Meghan getting ready to podcast

The Duchess has been instructed to be more relatable to her audience and not put on an act. PR expert Laura Perkes believes Meghan learned her lesson from her last podcast experience.

Rachel Zane Was Relatable But Meghan Markle Not So Much

Her PR person has warned Meghan that sometimes she can come across as self-absorbed and has been advised to listen to others and not have it be all about her if she is to win over the audience.

    Perkes explains,

“One of the reasons why so many people loved her in ‘Suits’ is because Rachel Zane was so relatable. Although Meghan played the character well, the reality was very different to what she portrayed on the show.”

Meghan needs to work on presenting herself to listeners and in any situation. Perkes says, “I think she needs to bring the softer side of Meghan out.   We need to get a glimpse of the real person.  We don’t want the polished façade of a Duchess and Hollywood star.”

Perkes also says most podcasts are successful because the show hosts are down to earth and keep things simple. She says,

“They peel back the mask and give us an insight into who they are as people, their values and beliefs, and the topics they’re passionate about. Listeners want to feel like other people are in the mud with them, going through the same challenges and navigating life the same as they are.”

Meghan now has another chance. It may be a terrible thing to say, but it’s true. Everyone has been keeping their eyes on the Sussexes, watching how they mess up next.

Maybe this is how Meghan will show them.
