Elon Musk can be quite the sensationalist and his recent comments about the birth rates and lack of population have created quite the stir. On Twitter, Musk tweeted that the population collapse is a bigger risk than global warming, and many people have called this statement into a question.
According to the UN, people are having fewer children, but as far as a shortage of people, it doesn’t seem to be the case. With their own projections and data, even though there are fewer babies, people are continuing to live longer, which brings the numbers close to the same.
“Population collapse due to low birth rates is a much bigger risk to civilization than global warming”
People Are Reacting To Elon Musk’s ‘Collapsing Birth Rate’ Tweet: “Mark These Words”
However, people aren’t quite sold on this thought. Many people reacted to his tweet saying, “There. Are. Almost. Eight. Billion. People. On. This. Planet. I think we’re doing fine in terms of birth rates. In fact, we got so many kids we keep some of ’em secret. Oh wait that’s just you.”, “Man, the fact you’re obsessed with leaving kids everywhere you go, even with your sidechicks, doesn’t mean you need to try to justify your acts of stupidity. Start working on extending our lifespan and stop introducing your sperm on every woman that works for you that’s the key” and “Not this again! What population collapse?? We’re nearly 8 billion and it’s predicted we’ll be 10 billion people by 2100. What population is collapsing? The only ones I can think of are wild animals.”
While there were some that agreed with Elon, it looks like most are not concerned with it. There is absolutely some truth to what Musk is saying, as fewer people are having children, but whether or not this will lead to a population decrease, we are unsure.
There has been plenty he has been correct about, and others that he may not be the best idea on. This may be one of the latter.
